This is retreat founder and director Amanda Bruton's go-to smoothie that she enjoys for breakfast most days or for a post-workout pick-me-up. It's a simple and delicious combination that's a great way to introduce yourself to the world of smoothies.

Makes 1 large or 2 small smoothies

This simple smoothie is bursting with green goodness: just sipping it puts a bounce in your step!
The spinach provides phytonutrients that green veggies are famous for and helps alkalinise your body. Banana provides natural sweetness and low GI energy, while the pea protein powder and almond meal give a protein boost to help cell repair and keep you feeling full for longer.
1 handful of spinach or baby spinach leaves
4 baby cos lettuce leaves
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
1 cup (250ml) water, coconut water or almond milk
1 banana — fresh or frozen (frozen gives a nice frosty texture)
2 Tablespoons pea protein powder
1 Tablespoon almond meal
Blend all ingredients in a blender or bullet until completely smooth, adding a little extra liquid if needed. Pour into a glass and sip slowly, feeling the nourishment surge through your body.
